A word from the artist - Woodrat Jay

I’m currently living in the forever sunny state of California, but I grew up in the desolate farmlands of Kansas and Idaho. 

Both my parents are artists, so it’s not hard to figure out how I got into art in the first place. I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil and took my creative adventure from there.

Hands down, nature is my inspiration. My parents raised me to have a deep appreciation of the natural world; especially my dad who’s a Biologist. I almost always incorporate the environment into my paintings and designs.

I absolutely love comics/anime/street art/graffiti. Anything loud and bright and sharp is totally my vibe. Probably because I’m a loud person. Those art styles, along with anything street style like clothing or music, has influenced the way I create. Skateboarding just really fits into that world, so I naturally started painting on skate decks and making deck designs. The edge and movement it brings to my art pieces gets me every time. I just love the combination so much.
